The SIA awards travel scholarships to help full-time students and professionals with less than three years of full-time experience to attend annual conferences. Those interested in applying for a travel scholarship to attend the annual conference in Seattle should submit a concise letter outlining their demonstrated interest in and commitment to industrial archeology or a related field, and one letter of reference.

Green Tortoise Hostel

Wanting to attend the conference but not wanting to pay for the hotel room?  An alternative for the student is the Green Tortoise Hostel, located (literally) across the street from the Pike Place Market and only five blocks away from the Grand Hyatt conference hotel.  Check it out here:

Conference Support

Coming to a conference as a student can be a big financial burden.  Luckily, the SIA and conference committee provide several ways to help defer the cost:

  • Student Scholarships
  • Acting as a wrangler on tours
  • Helping with registration
  • Helping with audio/visual and computer needs during paper sessions.

The details are not yet available, but be sure to check back when registration opens to get in on these opportunities.
